About NIISA
The National Indian Impacted Schools Association
The National Indian Impacted Schools Association (NIISA) is an incorporated non-profit established in 1983. NIISA represents and advocates on behalf of nearly 600 Indian land school districts serving over a million students. Eligible districts receive Impact Aid as compensation for lost taxing authority as a result of federal action to establish Indian treaty lands, Alaska Land Settlement lands and federal trust lands. In total, these school districts received in excess of $600,000,000 in operational (general funds/non categorical) funds annually. In addition to seeking full funding of the Impact Aid Program, NIISA is working diligently with the Impact Aid Coalitions in the House of Representatives and Senate to address the back log of facility needs in impacted districts.
